Please see below our update for the Barr Ellison Hoohaah Salcey Trail & Canicross:
This weekend’s Trail Run is going ahead as planned however, although it upsets us to do so, we have decided to cancel the Canicross due to the hot weather. We have consulted CanicrossUK and they have advised that no dogs run this weekend, looking at the temperatures and the humidity. At present the BBC weather forecast is 22-24 degrees from 9-10 am with humidity between 85-95%, which is really hot, especially if you’re covered in fur!
Here at Hoohaah & ATW we put the health and safety of all participants first, both human and canine, therefore please understand us cancelling this race is with the best intentions to our furry friend’s wellbeing.
We understand that some dogs may deal with the heat better than others, and you may even think your dog can still run safely in this weather, however we wish to keep all dogs safe regardless so we hope you can understand our decision.
The majestic Salcey Forest is a former medieval hunting forest nestled in the Northamptonshire countryside. This magnificent woodland has many miles of ancient wood banks, building remains and ancient trees. The ‘druids’, or veteran oaks, are rare and amazing wildlife habitats, and some of the old oaks are over 600 years old. What better place to hunt down a trail run!
The run takes place on a 7km loop of trails that wind gently through the woods.
If you're taking part in the Canicross, you and your dog must be physically fit to participate. All dogs taking part must be wearing a suitable running harness attached to a bungee line and waist belt. (Dogs will not be accepted into the event with their leash attached to their collar)
There will be a water and station on the run route at the end of the first lap. This will be aimed at those doing the two-lap 14km or three-lap half marathon event. There will also be water available at the finish, along with finish-line snacks. All litter must be carried or deposited in the bins at the water station.
This event will be hosted by Salcey Forest, a Forestry England venue. Forestry England manage landscapes for wildlife to thrive, people to enjoy and as a source of sustainable wood. 20% of your ticket fee will go towards maintaining Forestry England visitor facilities including visitor centres, play areas, bike trails and other facilities. By joining this event, you’ll help support our forests and maintain the facilities for you and your family to enjoy.
The Canicross run will set off 15 minutes before the Trail run to minimise any collisions between dogs and trail runners.
