The Bison Duathlon is back......... bigger and bolder than ever!
This fantastic event starts at the National Trust visitor's centre on Dunstable Downs, with the most stunning scenic backdrop of the Chiltern Hills you could imagine. You have a choice of the two lap Bison course, or the one lap 'Baby Bison'.
After a 13(or 6.5)km trail run around Dunstable Downs, you'll swap your trail shoes for bike shoes and head off through the Chiltern Hills for a 22km cycle loop with amazing views of the surrounding areas. The full Bison completes two laps, while the Baby Bison 'only' completes one.
Each bike lap takes on the climbs of Ivinghoe Beacon (often used for hill-climb competitions), Bison Hill (rated in the top 100 climbs in the UK), and after passing the Whipsnade Zoo penguin enclosure (don't worry you aren't hallucinating), you'll finish off each lap with the climb back up to the stunning vista of Dunstable Downs. But don't worry, what goes up, must come down...and this course includes long stretches of descents that will be sure to put a smile on your face.
If you've got anything left, both distances finish off with one lap of the challenging 6.5km run route.
After the event you'll be able to bask in the glory of taming The Bison with well-earned drink and food in the National Trust cafe.
We've put together some useful tips to help you succeed on the day.
This event runs alongside the Barr Ellison Hoohaah Trail race, so you will have plenty of company out on the trails.
Transgender athletes are, and will continue to be, very welcome at recreational and competitive activity in Duathlon. At any competitive event from 1st January 2023, there will be a Female category open to athletes who are the female sex at birth and an Open category open to all other athletes.
Car Parking is available at the venue with parking fees payable to Severn Trent Water
